My hard drive crashed after 6 months of use. It was not dropped, moved or banged. The sales person at Future shop told me it was because I had left it running all the time and didn't turn it off when I was not using it. I am now in the process of trying to figure out the warantee procedure. I am not happy with having to prove to Seagate that it is not working. That should be their problem.

reformat...after a fall.
Date: December 7, 2010
yes, seagate expansion drives are great for data storage and everything...but the only thing that is very disappointing about it is its thin cover. not that i mean it's simple or anything but just a while ago, my drive SLIPPED FROM MY HAND and FELL. and now, i have to FORMAT and ERASE EVERYTHING for it to work again...can someone do something about this? you know, upgrade the cover so that files could still be available even if it fell or something...upgrading it with a harder cover would be so much useful....i'm sorry i cannot fully express what i really want to express, i'm not that good in english...but i hope you get what i mean and do something about this...now do i really have to format my drive so that it could work again? :/

External Drives
Date: December 4, 2010
I've had two Seagate drives that were nothing but trouble. They would barely function to copy mass amounts of data and would fail during the process repeatedly. Once I finally got the data on the drive (almost 700GB worth), the first drive could not be recognized and I could not access any files. The warranty replacement weas no better as it was a reconditioned unit to replace the brand new one I had issues with. These drives are no value at any price if they are going to lose or make unavailable, your data.
Garbage.

Good purchase
Date: December 4, 2010
I purchased an external desktop hard drive from Office Depot and have been pleased with the decision. I purchased it to be able to store photos and digital files like music and receipts on in order to free up desktop space. It has been a good purchase.

Alarmed but ok so far
Date: November 28, 2010
Reading a lot of the reviews here concerns me. However, I just bought my 2.0TB Seagate Expansion and it is running fine so far. I've read that this seems to work best with Windows XP and has had more "clicking" problems with W7. I am running on XP at default power saver mode settings. I initially changed to "never" but the drive felt warm to the touch so I decided to restore to default. Nothing bad has happened yet. I have just put a few MB of pics and vids on it so far totaling to less than 1GB. Last night I also added about 8GB of music via itunes. The conversion to ACC format took about 2hrs for 850+ songs and the drive still is good. I recommend stressing the drive within the first couple of weeks to the harder side that you would typically use so as to breach any issues during the warranty period. If the drive should fail it will fail under these circumstances or not at all. If you take it easier from their you should be ok but I'm still going to have back up for this as well. If you have really precious stuff you should not rely on just one back up anyways.
